Speaker: Herb Cantu, Director of Solid Waste

Herb Cantu was born in Fresno, California and raised in a rural agricultural town know as Mendota, approximately 33 miles west of Fresno.  He attended CSU Fresno where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology.

Herb started the first seven years of his professional career in 2002 working in the food and manufacturing industry where he was employed by Kraft Foods and Sun-Maid Raisins and served in supervisory and project engineering roles.

In 2009, Herb transitioned into the solid waste industry where he served the County of Fresno for over six years as a Landfill Operation Manager and oversaw seven county owned landfill facilities.

In 2015, Herb was recruited and hired by the City of Santa Maria where he served as the Solid Waste Manager and was later promoted to Deputy Director of Solid Waste where he was responsible for solid waste collections, landfill operations, maintenance, regulatory compliance, recycling programs, capital projects, including the design, permitting, and construction of a future landfill facility.

In January 2024, Herb was hired by Ada County and currently serves as the Director of Solid Waste. Herb is responsible for the operations, maintenance, regulatory compliance, capital projects, outreach programs, and long-term planning for the County’s solid waste department.

On a personal note, Herb is married to his high school sweetheart Carmina and are parents to three active boys who are the ages of 17, 13, and 11.  In his free time, Herb volunteers and coaches baseball, basketball, and soccer.  Additionally, Herb and his family are excited about exploring the beautiful countryside Idaho has to offer.

Free Document Shred Day for Eagle Residents

Saturday, April 12, 2025 9am to noon.

Provided by the City of Eagle and Hardin Sanitation. Drop off unwanted documents in the City Hall parking lot. Limit quantity to 3 bankers-boxes per household. Items accepted include: paper, file folders, checkbooks, and mail. No need to remove paper clips or staples. Please no hard drives, electronics, or batteries.

Friday, June 27

Family Fun Night – Eagle High School: 5PM-8PM

• Join us from 5pm-8pm at Eagle High School (574 N Park Lane in Eagle) for Family Fun Night! There will be free family activities including carnival rides, inflatable bounce house and water slide, kid’s activity booths from local organizations and businesses, a DJ playing music, food trucks, and more! The Eagle Fire Department will also be there spraying water on those wanting to get wet.
• This is an alcohol-free event for all ages.

Eagle Fun Days Fireworks Show – Cancelled

FUN Run – Merrill Park: 8AM

• We are excited to partner with Pulse Running shop for the annual Eagle Fun Days FUN Run! Start your morning off right with a refreshing run along the famous Green Belt starting and finishing at Reid Merrill Park.

Main Event – Eagle City Hall: 11AM – 9PM

• Eagle City Hall will be alive with the sound of live local music, a bustling vendor market, and fun activities for all ages.

Eagle Fun Days Car Show – Downtown Eagle: 12PM-3PM

• The City of Eagle is excited to partner with SpitFire Tacos + Tequila for the annual Eagle Fun Days Car Show! The event will be held in its usual location on State Street between 2nd Street and Stierman Way.

•  If you have a classic car you would like to show off, then this is the perfect opportunity! To register for the Car Show, visit the Eventbrite page.

Cornhole Tournament – Eagle City Hall: 12PM

• The City of Eagle is excited to have it’s annual Eagle Fun Days Cornhole Tournament! The tournament will be held in the parking lot of Eagle City Hall.

Rotary Ball Drop – Eagle Public Library: 4PM

• The Eagle/Garden City Rotary Club will host their Eagle Fun Days Ball Drop for a chance to win $1000 and support the Eagle/Garden City Rotary Club. The drop will happen in front of the Eagle Public Library.

TIPTOW Fire Truck Pull – Eagle City Hall: 5PM

• The 6th annual Fire Truck Pull is brought to you by the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP Treasure Valley). The event will take place on Civic Lane in front of the Eagle Public Library. Teams of 12 first responders pull a fire engine 100 feet for the fastest time. The first responders will be sponsored by our community and businesses, and the money raised will go back to support the TIP organization.   For more information, visit the TIP website.

Rebuilding Generations

Our Story
Rebuilding Generations (a local 501c3 nonprofit) was born when founder Kevin Keep began brainstorming ways to mentor the youth of his community using God’s word. Kevin realized that rebuilding a car could be an effective and exciting avenue to reach kids and provide them with positive adult role models. The project of restoring and modifying vehicles would allow them to learn from each other, build trust, and potentially form lasting relationships. Rebuilding Generations was created from this desire and our purpose is to provide participants with a newfound respect and care for one another, share experiences with peers, and continue to cultivate their passion for automotive restoration.

Lisa Young – Idaho Chapter Director

Lisa has over 15 years of experience in community organizing, policy advocacy, and coalition-building for climate justice to her role as Idaho Chapter Director.  Born and raised in Boise, she attended Boise State University, where she earned a degree in Chemistry and developed a passion for grassroots environmental organizing.  Lisa went on to serve as Clean Energy Organizer at the Snake River Alliance, working with Idaho electric utilities, regulators, lawmakers, and community members to begin shifting Idaho away from coal.  Lisa then moved to Massachusetts and earned her Master of City Planning & Environmental Policy degree from MIT.  After graduate school, she served as the Climate Justice Partnerships Organizer at 350 Massachusetts, fostering partnerships with racial, economic, and Indigenous justice groups to lift up frontline community voices and build collective power. Lisa is honored to now help lead Idaho Sierra Club toward continuing its legacy of bold environmental progress in her home state.  In her free time, she enjoys dancing, playing board games, and watching her two young daughters discover the wonders of nature.

The Sierra Club, founded in 1892 in California, is the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization — with more than two million members and supporters. The Sierra Club has been successful in helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Action, the Endangered Species Act and the protection of millions of acres of wilderness.

The Idaho Chapter is one of 64 Sierra Club Chapters nationwide.  Our conservation work here in Idaho began in the 1970’s with the goal of securing permanent protection for the vast wildlands of Idaho. Historically, we focused on protecting endangered species like the grizzlies, wolves, and salmon, and helping advance protection for the Frank Church, Owyhee Canyonlands, and the Boulder-White Clouds.

Foster + Heart is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization located in Idaho’s Treasure Valley, dedicated to igniting the hearts of our community to foster + meet the needs of children in foster care. Our journey began with Mimi’s House, our first home, founded by our passionate Executive Director, Kate Wilson, in response to the immediate need in the foster care system.

Mimi’s House has been a place of love and support for children in transition to foster care, and its overwhelming success has shown us the pressing need for additional homes. In January of 2024, our second home, Bubba’s House, was officially opened. Within just hours of its opening, Bubba’s House reached full capacity, welcoming eight children in need of a home. This swift filling of spaces underscores the urgent need for organizations like Foster + Heart to provide essential support in the community.

At Foster + Heart, we understand the importance of keeping sibling sets together and offering the Department of Health and Welfare the time to find not just the first home, but the right home for each child. As they enter our doors, children are warmly welcomed by our empathetic and highly-trained staff, who play a crucial role in easing their transition into foster care.

In addition to our homes, we also organize engaging events that benefit the foster care community, fostering a sense of belonging, inclusivity, and support.

On May 1, 1947, a group of Idaho farmers and ranchers founded Idaho Farm Insurance Company that later became Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho. This company was grounded in the belief that neighbors should help neighbors. Because of this, Farm Bureau Insurance has built a customer-centered culture that has helped us grow stronger through decades of change. In 2024, the company restructured as the Farm Bureau Insurance Company of Idaho.

In our humble beginnings, we offered only auto insurance from our Pocatello office. Premiums for the first 60 days of business totaled just over $10,000. Subsequent generations of employees and agents, guided by the founders’ beliefs, built the company into what it is today: one of Idaho’s leading auto insurers, the largest writer of farm and ranch insurance in Idaho, and the largest insurance company wholly based in Idaho.
